Bible Study

Hannah and I started our Biblestudy the other day and so far we have gotten through Chapter's 2 and 3 in Acts. We have learned a great deal from these two chapters. It's much easier to understand them if you go through and break the chapter down and learn from it that way, which is what we're doing. Let's talk about Acts 2 & 3. I think a couple of things in Acts 2 that really caught my eye was the part where Peter stood up and spoke to the people about Jesus because everybody thought that the men who were speaking tongues were drunk but Peter was telling them that no, they werent drunk. They were speaking in tongues because God was speaking through them. The man that they sacrificed on the cross was speaking through these men and it was so profounding to the people because while Jesus was alive, they had scoffed at him but now they were starting to believe that he had really been the son of God.

Chapter 3,
3.4 I thought this was a good verse because it's talking about the begger that asked Peter and John for money, but they had none. They gave him something much better then money though. They gave him the gift to walk and that is much more valuable then the gift of money could ever be.

3-11.
"Why are you amazed?"I think this is an important verse aswell because when Peter and John walked in with the begger clinging to them and walking, people were amazed at the sight but Peter asked why they were amazed because did Christ not heal people? He spoke that it was this man's faith in Christ that healed him, not them. The man that they traded for a murderer who had done so many good things was the one that had healed this lame begger, not Peter and John and he wanted to stress that too the people. Hannah also brought up a good point that before we were saved, that we were but humble beggers and lame because we did not have the love of christ in our lives but once we came to know and love Christ we were whole and we cling to him, like the begger clinged to Peter and John.

Y'all give your opinions on these verses. What do you guys think?

Wow, those are great points!!! You two obviously thought about these chapters. :D Good for you! I really like the point that you made that Peter and John gave Jesus the credit for the healing of the lame man. That's so important for us, because many times we do things in God's strength... and then we're tempted to take glory for them when it belongs to Him. Awesome reminder to give God the glory for the work He does in and through us!

Great post, Ash!!!! :D

It is sooo easy for us to take the credit to ourselves when it clearly belongs to God.

We just finished up Acts 4 and there was a very good verse in there about the people who were laying theyre worldly possessions at the apostle's feet. They were so filled with the Spirit that they realized that all they needed was God's love, suddenly their worldly possessions : homes, land, material things.. didnt matter anymore. They gave up everything and were basically on the street because they knew that all they needed was God and God loved them no matter what they had.

I thought that that was a very profounding section because it showed that in God's eyes material objects dont matter. It doesnt matter how rich or poor somebody is because in God's eyes we are all the same. He doesnt care about material objects..because when we die who we were doesnt matter anymore. We are all special to him. :D No matter what we have.
